Alabaxter Box (1999)

Updated: Nov 16, 2023

Alabaxter Box is the fourth studio album by Christian gospel singer CeCe Winans. It was released on October 19, 1999 by the WellSpring Gospel (later renamed PureSpring Gospel) label, a gospel label CeCe founded and is its flagship artist with distribution by Chordant Distribution Group, a parent label of EMI Christian Music Group.

CeCe described Alabaster Box as an "experimental" album for the label before any new artists were signed. It did very well on the charts and included a duet with R&B a cappella group Take 6 on the track "One and the Same." The album is produced by gospel singer Fred Hammond, Cedric and Victor Caldwell, Christopher Harris and other various producers. In 2000, CeCe released a one-hour concert video on VHS titled CeCe Winans - Live from the Lamb's Theatre in New York performing songs from Alabaxter Box and from her previous solo albums.

The album has charted on the following Billboard album charts:

#1 Top Gospel Albums

#5 Top Christian Albums

#55 Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums

#129 Billboard Top 200

Alabaxter Box was certified Gold a full year later after the album's release by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 2001, CeCe won a Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song of the Year for the title song at the 32nd GMA Dove Awards and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album.
