All Out (1993)

All Out is the seventh studio album by the Christian gospel vocal group The Winans, released on August 24, 1993 by Qwest/Warner Bros. Records and Warner Alliance Records.

All Out is The Winans' first album in three years and released after the success of their 1990 album Return and continues their contemporary urban sound mixing gospel and hip hop/R&B with more guest artists appearing. Prolific musician Robert Kelly (known professional as R. Kelly) provides guest vocals and produces on two of the three tracks: the singles "Payday" (R. Kelly also provides rap vocals) and "That Extra Mile." Other prolific artists/musicians on the album include R&B vocalist Lelah Hathaway ("It's Not Heaven If You're Not There"),

Country singer Ricky Van Shelton ("If He Doesn't Come Tonight"), singer -

songwriter Kenny Loggins ("Love Will Never Die") and young brother BeBe Winans

providing backing vocals on the final track "He Said Go."

The Winans worked with various producers, including R. Kelly, Gerald Levert, nephew Mario Winans and Michael J. Powell among others, on the album to give it a mix of variety with musician Quincy Jones and Barry Hankerson serving as executive producers. The title of the album is based on scripture from Mark 16: 15: "He said unto them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation,'" (NIV) hence the name of the album.

All Out is the first Winans album to not top the Gospel Album chart, but only peaking at number 15, also peaked at number 9 on the Top Christian Albums and debuted and peaked at number 41 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums charts in Billboard magazine. In 1994, The Winans won their seventh and final Grammy Award for their album in the category of Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album.

They were nominated for a Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year and a Soul Train Music Award for Best Gospel Album.
