An Evening in December is the debut studio and first Christmas album by the Christian music group First Call. It was released in late 1985 on Word Records' DaySpring label. Credited as First Call and Friends, the album features guest soloists David Meece, Wayne Watson, Cynthia Clawson, Kelly Nelon Thompson and Dave Boyer. Sung in a capella, An Evening in December is produced by Steven V. Taylor with David Maddux arranging the songs.
The album's highlight is a new arrangement on the Christmas tune "The Twelve Days of Christmas" with new lyrics by Claire Cloninger in a medley with "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." The title song is an original song written by Tricia Walker with featured soloist Thompson. "One Small Child" was written and performed with its writer Meece. An Evening in December peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart in late 1987. This album and its follow up
An Evening in December, Volume II were best sellers during the holiday season in the late 1980s. In 1986, the album was nominated for a Dove Award for Inspirational Album of the Year.
