Can't Buy a Miracle is the tenth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Randy Stonehill, released on April 26, 1988 by Myrrh/Word Records. The album was produced by Dave Perkins.
Can't Buy a Miracle continues the rock sound previously heard from his 1986 release The Wild Frontier, but with more diversity. "Brighter Day" has more of a country rock flare featuring Gary Chapman on backing vocals, while "Cold Rock the Groove" sounds like the 1983 Yes track "Owner of a Lonely Heart" meeting the avant-garde synth pop group Art of Noise. That track features guest vocals by Glenn and Wendi Kaiser of the Christian hard rock band Resurrection Band (aka Rez Band).
The highlight of the album is the Stonehill-penned ballad "Coming Back Soon," which is an expression of God's devotion for those on earth for whom Christ may seem absent but for whom He will return soon. Stonehill and producer - musician Perkins wrote six of the album's nine tracks with Stonehill writing the remaining three songs himself. Other guests include Russ Taff and Phil Keaggy. Can't Buy a Miracle is the first Stonehill album since his 1980 album The Sky is Falling to not chart on the Christian albums chart.
NOTE: in a unique album promotion, the LP cover is in two variations: the front cover shows the artist's name and album title along with the throwback font of the Myrrh label and a bar code. The back album cover features what looks like a vintage photo of Stonehill along with the artist's name and album title. The back album cover can also pass as the front album cover, so it works well either way.
