CeCe Winans (2001)

Updated: Nov 17, 2023

CeCe Winans is the self-titled fifth studio album by Christian gospel singer CeCe Winans, released on June 19, 2001 by WellSpring Gospel and Sparrow Records. Brown Bannister produced a majority of the album along with co-producers Tommy Sims and Robbie Buchanan.

The album is more like her 1998 album Everlasting Love with a mixture of pop, R&B, and hip hop. CeCe Winans is not only musically diverse but offers hard-hitting messages. The song "It's Gonna Get Better" was written with teen suicide prevention programs in mind, while "Bring Back the Days of Yea and Nay," a duet with brother Marvin Winans, challenges parents to take responsibility for training their children. A definite highlight on the album is the song "Looking Back at You." It is an inspirational track, leaning toward a ballad, that speaks of God's unfailing and unconditional love. Christian hip hop duo GRITS are featured rappers on the track "Anybody Wanna Pray." Latin singer - songwriter Marc Anthony co-wrote the track "No One."

The album has charted on the following Billboard album charts:

#2 Top Gospel Albums

#2 Top Christian Albums

#48 Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums

#116 Billboard Top 200

CeCe Winans was certified Gold in 2003 by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 2002, CeCe won both Grammy and Dove Awards for the album (see CeCe's accolades below).
