Crusin' (1997)/What Kind of Love (1998)

Writer's picture: Joel CaballeroJoel Caballero

Cruisin' is the third studio album by British Christian singer - songwriter Chris Eaton. Originally released in 1997 by Alliance Music for the U.K. and other international markets, it was released in North America as What Kind of Love by Cadence Communications and manufactured by Warner Alliance on April 28, 1998. Eaton produced the album himself.

Eaton wrote eight songs by himself, plus he co-wrote three songs: "What Kind of Love" which he co-wrote with Amy Grant. Grant herself recorded her version of the track, at the time, during the Behind the Eyes recording session but ended up not included in its original release until 2022 when it was included in her 2-CD 25th anniversary edition. Other co-writers on this album include 4Him member Marty Magehee co-writing "Boat of Devotion" and Rob Marshall co-writing "That's What Faith is For." Eaton also introduced "God So Loved the World." It was recorded a year later as "God So Loved" for Latina Christian singer Jaci Velasquez for her 1998 self-titled release and it became a big Christian radio hit. The track earned Eaton a Dove Award nomination for Song of the Year in 1999.

Cruisin' contains the same track listing as What Kind of Love. A bonus track "It's a Beautiful Day" is only on What Kind of Love in the U.S. and Canada and on the reissue of Cruisin' in 2001 in Japan as "Cruisin' Away." The album is currently out of print and is not available digitally to stream or purchase. A YouTube link to listen to the album is posted below this article.
