Emerging is the one and only album released under the name Phil Keaggy Band.
It was released on January 20, 1978 by New Song Records. Keaggy co-produced the album with Peter K. Hopper. The album was recorded around August 1977.
Even though it's Keaggy's third solo album, this is the first album to be credited as a namesake band. Besides Keaggy playing both acoustic and electric guitars and vocals, the rest of the band consists of Lynn Nichols (classical, acoustic and electric guitars), Phil Maderia (keyboards), Dan Cunningham (bass) and Terry Anderson (drums and percussion). The album's sound is a mix of pop/rock and jazz, kind of reminiscent of Steely Dan. The track "Where Is My Maker" was the only song to be released to Christian radio and charted up to number 15 on the Christian radio chart.
Emerging was reissued by Nissi Records in 1984. In 2000, the album was reissued as ReEmerging. It was reissued for the first time on CD. The 2000 reissue omitted the track "Gentle Eyes" but contains four newly recorded bonus tracks. Both the original and the 2000 reissue are currently out of print and are not available to stream. A YouTube link to listen to the album is posted below this article.
