Emmanuel: A Musical Celebration of the Life of Christ is a musical compilation project album released on October 29, 1996 by Sparrow Records. Norman Miller, who oversaw the original 1990 project Handel's Young Messiah and its 1993 project The New Young Messiah, serves as the executive producer and the project was created and produced by Greg Nelson and Bob Farrell.
Nelson and Farrell first collaborated on Sandi Patty's 1993 concept album Le Voyage and Miller had asked them to compose some original music portraying the life of Christ. Michael W. Smith also has contributed in compositions and scores. And like the Young Messiah projects, it features the finest voices in Christian music. Smith teams up with Amy Grant singing his 1983 track "Emmanuel." Grant and Smith have previously sung this track separately on Grant's Christmas release A Christmas Album and on the various artists 1990 Christmas compilation Our Christmas, respectively. It serves as the centerpiece of the musical project.
Other artists heard on this project include Patty, Larnelle Harris, Twila Paris, Margaret Becker, Point of Grace, Gary Chapman, Anointed and many others. Emmanuel peaked at number 7 on the Top Christian Albums and at number 124 on the Billboard 200 albums charts in Billboard magazine.
