He Hold the Keys (1985)

Updated: Jun 18

He Holds the Keys is the second solo album by Christian singer Steve Green, released on June 5, 1985 by Sparrow Records. The album was produced by Greg Nelson.

He Holds the Keys is Green's breakthrough album and succeeding as the follow-up to his 1984 self-titled debut album, continuing the inspirational songs like the title track and the lite pop Christian AC hit "That's Where the Joy Comes From."

Green records a cover of David Meece's song "I Can See," from Meece's album 7, which was co-written with Gloria Gaither and also records a cover of "Touch Your People Once Again," originally recorded by Christian singer Evie and her husband Pelle Karlsson, who wrote the track. The album was reissued in 1986 by Sparrow with an updated photo of Green on the album cover and it is currently the cover they are using now on the CD and digital releases. He Holds the Keys climbed up to number 10 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart by 1986.

In 1986, Green earned his first Grammy Award nomination for Best Gospel Performance, Male for the album and at the Dove Awards, he was nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year, Artist of the Year and Inspirational Album of the Year. Green performed his two recorded songs "He Holds the Keys" and "People Need the Lord" at the Dove Awards ceremony as both songs were nominated for Song of the Year.
