Heart in Motion (1991)

Updated: Nov 23

Heart in Motion is the ninth studio album by Christian singer-songwriter Amy Grant, released on March 5, 1991 by Myrrh/Word Records and A&M Records.

Unlike Grant's previous albums, Heart In Motion contains pop songs mingled with Christian values (with the exception of "Hope Set High" and "Ask Me"). The album features Grant's biggest worldwide hit, "Baby Baby" and was certified 5× platinum in the United States, selling over five million copies. In addition to Grant's long-time producer Brown Bannister, Michael Omartian and Keith Thomas also produced, making this the first time that Grant has worked with outside producers other than Bannister.

With Grant's first solo number one hit "Baby Baby" (her second overall and her first since 1986's "The Next Time I Fall" with Peter Cetera), other hits followed like "Every Heartbeat" and "That What Love is For." The album climbed to number 10 on the Top 200 Albums and number 1 on the Top Christian Albums charts in Billboard magazine.

The album was listed at number 30 from CCM Magazine's 2001 book The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music, making it the best-selling Christian album ever released. Grant was nominated for 4 Grammy Awards for Album of the Year for Heart in Motion and "Baby Baby" was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female, Song of the Year and Record of the Year losing in all categories. At the 23rd GMA Dove Awards, Grant was named Artist of the Year for the fourth time. In 2007, Heart in Motion was digitally remastered and reissued by Sparrow Records/EMI-Christian Music Group.
