Invention is a collaborative album by Christian musicians and songwriters
Phil Keaggy, Wes King and Scott Denté of Out of the Grey. It was released on October 7, 1997 by Sparrow Records. The album was produced by Robert S. Fields and executive produced by Lynn Nichols.
Billed as a once in a lifetime experience of three of the top guitar players and songwriters, Invention contains seven instrumentals, three vocal tracks and the album's closing track "Something, Somewhere" features vocals by all three artists. All three play electric, acoustic and bass guitars and amplifiers along with musicians Chris Kent on bass and Ken Lewis on drums and percussion providing the rhythm section. "River of Life" with lead vocals sung by Keaggy was the only Christian radio single to be released. Invention debuted and peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. In 1998, the album won a Dove Award for Instrumental Album of the Year at the 29th GMA Dove Awards. It was Keaggy's third Dove win in this category with King and Denté each winning one for the first time.
