Lift is the sixth studio album by the Christian modern rock band Audio Adrenaline, released on November 20, 2001 by ForeFront Records. The band produced the album themselves.
It is Audio A's second release of 2001 (the band released their "best of"
compilation album Hit Parade earlier). Lift has the rough feel of 1996's Bloom, but has some upbeat pop tunes like "Beautiful" and "Rejoice." But the album's real highlight is "Ocean Floor." The rock ballad is the best track that talks about
forgiveness and leaving behind your sins. The song is sung by Mark Stuart singing the verses and lead guitarist Tyler Burkum singing the chorus and bridge. This is the first time that lead vocal duties were shared by Stuart and Burkum. The album as a whole has a worship feel to most of the tracks, especially that it was released as part of the modern contemporary worship movement at the time with albums by Third Day, Delirious? and Michael W. Smith with his worship albums.
Audio A became a four-piece band once again with musician Bob Herdman leaving to run their label Flicker Records, which he co-founded with Stuart and Will McGinniss. Herdman did get involved in the making of Lift as a songwriter and co-wrote the entire album with the band. Audio A purchased a house in Nashville, Tennessee and turned it into a home studio where the album was made.
Lift debuted and peaked at number 12 and number 169 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums and Billboard 200 Albums charts, respectively. Audio A has also released an audio/video DVD featuring music videos for "Ocean Floor," "Rejoice" and "Hands and Feet" from Underdog and seven audio tracks, plus interviews and other footage. In 2003, Audio A won a Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year at the 34th GMA Dove Awards. "Ocean Floor" was nominated for Song of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year. The album was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Gospel Album.
