Love Broke Thru is the second solo album by Christian singer/songwriter/
guitarist Phil Keaggy. It was released in October 1976 by New Song Records.
The album was produced by Buck Herring, who is best known for producing albums for 2nd Chapter of Acts.
Love Broke Thru is considered a masterpiece and shows more of Keaggy's guitar playing skills. Keaggy created a state-of-the-times Christian pop/rock statement at a time when Christian music production values tend to lag behind mainstream peers. It remains a fan favorite. The title song, "Your Love Broke Through," was released as the lead single. It was written by Todd Fishkind and Christian music veterans Keith Green and Randy Stonehill. Other highlights include "Take Me Closer" and "Just the Same." "Time" is a near-seven minute rock track featuring Keaggy's innovative guitar work.
"As the Ruin Falls" is an arrangement of a C.S. Lewis poem of the same name. Another track based on a poem is "Disappointment." The poem was first published by Laura Sophie Soole in 1893. Guest appearances include Michael Omartian on keyboards, with Annie Herring and Matthew Ward of 2nd Chapter of Acts, and Mylon LeFevre providing background vocals. The album was reissued in 1984 by Nissi Records and in 1990 by Myrrh/Word Records as part of a double album on CD with his first album What a Day. In 2001, CCM Magazine ranked Love Broke Thru at number 64 in their book The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music. A YouTube link to listen to the album is posted below this article.
