Phil Keaggy is the 20th self-titled solo album by Christian singer/songwriter/
guitarist Phil Keaggy. It was released on September 16, 1998 by Myrrh/Word Records. The album was produced by Keaggy and Tom Laune.
Phil Keaggy is Keaggy's first full vocal album since 1995's True Believer but without the slick production style. He wanted to recapture the live organic sound of his rock and roll albums, Phil Keaggy and Sunday's Child, Find Me in These Fields and Crimson and Blue. Although Keaggy has retained some of True Believer's adult contemporary sound, there are some Beatle-esqe influences on some of the tracks. The lead single "Days Like You" received some considerable airplay and was his final Top 20 hit on Christian radio but was drowned by the influx of younger artists like Rebecca St. James, Point of Grace, DC Talk and Third Day.
Geri Bobeck, Keaggy's sister, contributed her songwriting on two tracks: "My Unspoken Words" and "Tender Love." The tracks "Beneath the Blood-Stained Lintel" and "Quite Suddenly" were inspired by author Harry A. Ironside's book The Continual Burnt Offering. Keaggy also does a cover of the 1988 Sheila Walsh track "Jesus Loves the Church" to close the album. Phil Keaggy debuted and peaked at number 32 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart.
