Straight On (1979)

Updated: Jun 4

Straight On is the second studio album by the Christian Rock duo DeGarmo & Key, released on May 20, 1979 by Lamb & Lion/Word Records. The album was produced by DeGarmo & Key and Joe Hardy.

CCM Magazine named this as one the 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music ranking at number 95. CCM publisher and founder John W. Styll said of Straight On, that this album was "an immediate standout because it represented a

standard-setting quantum leap in production quality. D&K was one of the few groups at the time to display authentic rock 'n' Roll attitude with production that was musically right in tune with the synth-driven arena rock of the day."

It was on this album that they were credited as The DeGarmo & Key Band, because in addition to D&K, it featured the rhythm section of Ken Porter on bass guitar, Terry Moxley on drums and Lewis Collins on saxophone. DeGarmo sings lead on the lead single "Livin' On the Edge of Dyin'." Other highlight tracks include "Long Distance Runner," "Go Tell Them" and "Mary." DeGarmo & Key wrote all the songs on the album. Straight On was reissued on CD in 1992 by ForeFront Records and was reissued and remastered in 2021 on CD and limited edition vinyl by Girder Records.
