The Loving Kind is the fifth studio album by Christian singer - songwriter Cindy Morgan. It was released on March 10, 1998 by Word Records. The Loving Kind is a concept album that focuses on the last eight days of Jesus Christ's life on earth, from the last supper to the betrayal to the trial to the crucifixtion and resurrection. The album is produced by Brent Bourgeois and Craig Hansen, the same production team responsible for Morgan's previous album Listen. The album was released in time for the Easter season. For the first time on this album, no songs were charted on the Christian CHR chart. All singles charted strictly on the Christian AC radio chart.
The album's lead single, "Take My Life," climbed up to number one on the Christian AC chart. Also known as Mary Magdalene's song, it is sung from her perspective as she sings about her love and devotion to Him. Other song highlights include the title song, about Peter's denial of not knowing Christ and his betrayal, "Devil Man" is about Judas' guilt of getting Christ arrested and selling him to the Jewish leasers for greed, "Alive and Well," co-written with Michael W. Smith and Andrew Ramsay, are about the resurrection of Christ. Smith plays the piano on the track. "Praise the King" is a simple worship song. Prior to making The Loving Kind, the songs were inspired by Morgan's trip to Jerusalem and walking the same streets where Jesus walked. The album peaked at number 18 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and in 1999, Morgan was nominated for a Dove Award for Songwriter of the Year. No music videos were made for this album, as she did on her previous releases.
