The Master & The Musician is the fourth solo and first all instrumental album
by Christian singer/songwriter/guitarist Phil Keaggy. It was recorded from June to August of 1978, but was released in the spring of 1979. This was Keaggy's final album on the New Song Records label. Keaggy produced, composed and
arranged the album himself.
This album has the feel of soft rock, jazz and classical as Keaggy plays Ebow, classical and electric guitars as well as playing all the instruments including drums and bass, plus with him and his wife Bernadette providing voices on some of the tracks and additional musicians. On the album liner notes Keaggy tells a story for each track. The Master & The Musician is often regarded as one of Keaggy's best albums showcasing his guitar playing skills. The album was reissued in 1984 by Nissi Records and in 1989, it was reissued by Myrrh/Word Records on CD with a bonus track. The Master & The Musician made its first appearance on the Billboard Top Inspirational Albums chart in the spring of 1980 where it debuted and peaked at number 31.
