The Mission (1989)

Updated: Jun 23

The Mission is the sixth studio album by Christian singer Steve Green, released in the fall of 1989 by Sparrow Records. The album was produced by Greg Nelson. The Mission is a continuation of spreading the word of God to people that need to hear the messages of good news and hope, a theme heard from his previous albums. Sparrow label mate Michael Card provides guest vocals on the track "Embrace the Cross." Green also records the non-holiday version of "Anthem" written by Michael W. Smith and Gloria Gaither. The holiday version titled "Anthem for Christmas" was recorded by Smith for his 1989 Christmas album. The Mission peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart.

In 1990, Green won a Dove Award for Inspirational Album of the Year at the 21st GMA Dove Awards.
