The Secret of Time is the third studio album by singer - songwriter Charlie Peacock. Released on May 4, 1990, it was his first album on Sparrow Records after moving from California to Tennessee with his family to record this album.
The album is produced by Brown Bannister with Peacock writing all ten songs on The Secret of Time. CCM Magazine ranked this album at number 26 in their 2001 book The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music. The Secret of Time was an eclectic mix of alternative rock, jazz and soul. "Big Man's Hat," "The Way of Love" and "One Thing" got the full production treatment (those songs were previously heard as early recordings and demos from West Coast Diaries). Guest musicians include Margaret Becker and Wayne Kirkpatrick singing backing vocals on the track "Heaven is a Real Place" and Peacock's 9-year old son Sam Ashworth was singing backing vocals with a children's choir on "Dear Friend." Jimmy Abegg and Vince Ebo (from the Charlie Peacock Trio) are also on the album providing guitars and backing vocals, respectively.
The Secret of Time peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. The album produced his very first radio singles on Christian radio like "Big Man's Hat," "Dear Friend" and "Almost Threw It All Away," which gave him his first number one song on the Christian CHR chart.
