Throne Room (2003)

Updated: Nov 19, 2023

Throne Room is the sixth studio album by Christian gospel singer CeCe Winans, released on September 9, 2003 by PureSpring Gospel (formerly WellSpring Gospel) and INO Records (later renamed Fair Trade) with mainstream distribution by Epic Records/Sony Music. The album is produced entirely by brothers Cedric and Victor Caldwell with CeCe as a co-producer.

The album is a departure from the upbeat R&B/urban soul of CeCe's previous albums CeCe Winans and Everlasting Love, focusing more on worship. Throne Room is divided into two parts on the CD: tracks 1 -8 subtitled Songs of Worship and Reflection is the worship aspect of the reflection for God's love. Tracks 9 -16 subtitled Songs of Praise and Adoration is the adoration of God's praise. CeCe covers the track "Mercy Said No" (originally recorded by CCM recording artist and future member of the CCM group Avalon, Greg Long) as a dedication to his late elder brother Ronald Winans. A Gold Edition of the album contains a live bonus track of the hymn "Blessed Assurance." The first 1,000 copies of Throne Room were issued with a DVD that contained exclusive interviews, behind-the-scenes moments, live performances, and the "More Than What I Wanted" music video.

The album has charted on the following Billboard album charts:

#1 Top Gospel Albums

#1 Top Christian Albums

#21 Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums

#32 Billboard Top 200

In 2004, CeCe won a Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song of the Year for the track"Hallelujah Praise" at the 35th GMA Dove Awards. That same year, Throne Room was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. A DVD concert video was released called Live in the Throne Room that was recorded at Cornerstone Church in Brentwood, Tennessee.
